MFM FC ended a run of three consecutive defeats by beating FC Ifeanyi Ubah 1-0 at the Agege Stadium in the week 22 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
There were suggestions that failure to earn three points against the stubborn Anambra Warriors could spell doom for the title chances of the Olukoya Boys, but striker Adebayo returned to the scoresheet at the perfect time to seal a slim victory.
It seemed it would be another day of frustration for the hosts as Stephen Odey fired what seemed to be a simple sidefooted finish over the bar and then had an effort well saved by Bamba Drissa.
A dominant MFM maintained pressure with the likes of Sikiru Olatunbosun, Chukwuka Onuwa and Odey all lively, though the final ball often let them down with countless crosses either miss-hit or easily cleared.
But their persistence paid off as Waheed broke the deadlock on 19 minutes, beating Bamba with a sweet finish into the bottom corner following poor communication between Stephen Eze and Adou Blaise.
Chances came and went, with Godwin Obaje surprisingly failing to score from Isaac Loute’s cross, but the one goal was all MFM needed to seal a much needed three points.
